We are thrilled to introduce the two latest additions to our portfolio at Niel Joubert Wines: the 2024 vintage of our newly rebranded Rosé, formerly known as Blanc de Noir, and our Reserve Tempranillo 2021.
Our Rosé 2024 marks an evolution in both name and character, crafted from a blend of 66% Pinotage, 22% Cinsaut, and 12% Grenache Noir. We have decided to abandon the previous “Blanc de Noir” terminology on the label in response to the numerous requests received from our importers and instead use the term “Rosé.”
The wine is made by allowing the grape skins to remain in contact with the juice for a short period, imparting a lovely delicate, light pink hue to the wine, after which the skins are removed and the fermentation process continues until the juice is fermented dry. This process enhances the wine’s aromatic complexity and depth of flavour, which you can now experience.
Tasting Notes by Cape Wine Master Raymond Noppé:
“The Niel Joubert Rosé 2024 captivates with its beautiful rose water color, inviting you to explore its enchanting aromas. On the nose, you’ll discover vibrant scents of fresh strawberry, cherry, and raspberry, complemented by a hint of red apple and candyfloss. The palate is a symphony of flavours, featuring notes of Pink Lady apples, watermelon, and ripe cherries, further enriched by juicy red berry fruit. The well-balanced acidity ensures a vibrant and refreshing mouthfeel, with a lasting freshness that carries the fruit effortlessly, culminating in a very delicate and elegant style of rosé. Highly recommended! Score – 91/100.”
We are excited about the return of the new vintage of our Reserve Tempranillo to our portfolio, following a lengthy time of being out of stock.
Tempranillo (pronounced temp-rah-nee-oh) is Spain’s noble grape. Dating back to before the time of Christ, it is grown throughout northern and central Spain, perhaps most famously in Rioja where it is often blended with smaller quantities of Garnacha (Grenache Noir) where it produces rich, concentrated wines with real staying power.
Although this variety is still unfamiliar to the majority of South African wine enthusiasts, we are delighted to provide you with a distinctive and charismatic wine.
Tasting Notes by Cape Wine Master Raymond Noppé:
“Deep ruby colour. The nose is complex and layered, offering aromas of liquorice, herbs, coffee, plums, blackberry and ripe cherry, followed by subtle nuances of oak spice, leather, tobacco and a distinctive earthiness. Full-bodied and masculine, with a big structure and well integrated tannins. The classic earthy and cocoa notes of the grape variety follow through on the palate, with generous flavours of black fruits, spice and plums on the finish. A wine with great depth, balance, composure and oodles of character! It can mature gracefully for at least 10 years from vintage. Score – 94/100.”
